Summit Collaborative

About Us

A Movement of churches

Founded in 2016, Summit Collaborative is a family of churches working together to help each other thrive and multiply. Through shared mission and genuine partnership, we develop leaders, plant new churches, and strengthen what’s already there.

We are not a denomination or a franchise. We are a relational network of autonomous churches, aligned around shared theology and a shared commitment to multiplication.

Our DNA

Thrive & Multiply

A church that isn’t thriving can’t multiply. A church that isn’t multiplying starts to stagnate.

We treat both as one job: build churches healthy enough to send, and send often enough to stay healthy.

History

How it began

  1. 2009 · BOLD VISION

J.D. Greear, pastor of The Summit Church, casts a bold vision: 1,000 churches planted in a generation. A vision bigger than any one church begins to take shape.

  2. 2010 · FIRST TEAM

The Summit Church sends its first church planting team to Denver, Colorado. One group puts its yes on the table and begins a pattern of sending.

  3. 2013 · THE CHURCH PLANTING COHORT

Church planting grows from one plant at a time to a repeatable pipeline. The Church Planting Cohort begins preparing and sending multiple planters each year.

  4. 2016 · EXPANDING THE COHORT

The Church Planting Cohort expands beyond Summit residents to train planters coming from other churches. Church planting is beginning to become a shared effort.

  5. 2017 · FIRST GRANDDAUGHTER CHURCH

The Collaborative has grown into a family of experienced leaders who can train the next generation of planters together. Training shifts from being centered at The Summit Church to drawing on leaders and churches across the movement.

  6. 2022 · ASSESSMENT & DEVELOPMENT FOCUS

The movement expands its focus to identifying and developing leaders at every level across our churches. Leader assessment becomes an increasing priority throughout the Collaborative.

  7. 2025 · TRUE MULTIPLICATION

The movement reaches two major multiplication milestones: our first great-granddaughter church is planted in Denver, and the Mercy Hill Collaborative is commissioned. What began as one church planting churches is becoming multiple networks of churches
    multiplying together.

How we work together

The Collaborative Way

01

Identify leaders through relationships

We don’t just look for leaders—we grow them. Our churches cultivate leaders from within by recognizing their potential, investing in their growth, and preparing them to lead.

02

Support each other like family

We’re more than a network—we’re a family. Our churches encourage, challenge, and learn from one another, helping each other grow stronger and go further in ministry.

03

Champion multiplication

We have a “one more” mentality. Together, we invest our experiences, resources, and relationships to see one more disciple made, one more leader developed, and one more church planted.

What We Believe

Our churches are grounded in historic Christian orthodoxy and the
authority of Scripture.

We share a common theological foundation, outlined in our Statement of Collaboration. This creates clarity and trust across the network, while leaving room for flexibility in ministry practice.

Alignment matters because planting churches together requires deep trust and shared conviction.
