Church planting 101

Here's everything you need to know about how you can plant a church with Summit Collaborative.

Planting 101

For Collaborative churches

If there is someone on your team that you believe is ready to plant, the first step is initiating a Church Planter Assessment.

  1. 01

You will invite them to begin and share some initial information with us about the candidate.

  2. 02

Then they will walk through the assessment process with our team. Our team will work with you to confirm readiness and make a plan for planting them well.

  3. 03

The process concludes with an in-person assessment in Raleigh-Durham and an Assessment Report outlining next steps for both the planter and their sending church.

Planting 101

For churches exploring partnership

We want to see a movement of planting across the country. And we believe that will happen when churches take ownership of developing leaders and multiplying from within.

If you are a church leader with a potential planter, we would love to talk with you about what partnership in the Collab could look like.

We also have GoMultiply events throughout the year where churches can learn from the Collaborative and explore partnership in developing leaders and planting churches.

For planters exploring partnership

Over the past few years, we've focused our church planting efforts primarily within the Collaborative family. Practically, that means planters who want to partner with us need a Collaborative church to serve as their Sending or Sponsor Church.

If you are interested in joining a residency or being connected to a sponsor church, email jason@summitcollaborative.org.

Church-Planting Cohort

Once a planter is ready to move forward, they'll join our Church Planting Cohort, a 9-month leadership finishing school designed to equip leaders for church planting. This isn't an internship. It's an incubator where planters begin building their church in real time, applying what they learn in the cohort directly to their growing congregation.

Alongside seasoned coaches and mentors from across the Collaborative, planters experience gospel-centered formation that shapes both how they lead and how they plant. They'll also build intentional relationships with like-minded leaders who become a church-planting family along the way.

Planters gain access to our network of supporting and sending churches for financial partnership as they move toward planting. To learn more about the cohort's schedule, experiences, and resources, see the Cohort Overview Document.
